1:1 Art Therapy

Download Policy

  • No. It’s a common misconception that you need to be an artist to do art therapy. This is not the case, everyone is creative - I know sounds like a throw away comment, but it is true, it’s a virtue you are born with.

If you are worried about the ‘art’ part of Art Therapy, you are not alone! This is a common worry for lots of people feel this way when they start Art Therapy - there’s a reason for that too, we’ve often told when we are young that we are either creative/artistic or not. Creativity is like a muscle in your body, it just needs to worked out, stretch and massaged! Please know that you’ll be supported by me to help you access and figure out what works for your creatively eg. art mediums, ways of expressing creativity (movement, poetry, story).

It’s always scary at the beginning, but sometimes we just need to get started so we can move through the initial creative block.

  • The word Transpersonal means ‘Beyond the Personal.’

In other words, we explore and expand beyond the ego, that is our conscious knowledge of who we think we are in the world. We privilege the unconscious mind which brings the unknown into conscious awareness. We can access our unconscious mind through engaging creative expression, guided meditation, movement, play, dance, poetry, metaphor, ritual and story. These engagements allow us to turn down our logical ‘thinky’ self and tune into our creative and emotional self. In this way we allow for a rebalancing and centering of self.

As a Transpersonal Art Therapist I will assist clients to create a bridge between their inner and outer world through creativity and mind-body practices. This allows clients to access and draw on their own healing wisdom and build on their inner resources. I believe the client is the expert and the role of the art therapist is to walk beside them as they wander through their inner landscape. We work with symbols, images and metaphors that come through in creative expression to explore potential new openings and meanings. Working in this gentle and creative way allows the client to be empowered to find their own answers, in their own time.

I use a CRM service that is HIPAA compliant with bank grade level security and any data collected is stored via servers located in Australia.

  • Good question! Each session will be different for each individual. However, the general structure for an Art Therapy sessions:

    1. Check-in with how you are doing and discussion on an area or issue you would like to explore.

    2. Creative exploration/process to help explore and bring forth the presenting issue.

    3. Unpacking what you have discovered through gentle inquiry and curiosity.

    4. Reflection on experience and plans for next session and homework.

  • The frequency of scheduling appointments is up to you. You may only require an occasional session to get you back on track or you may want to explore more in depth issues that require weekly/bi-weekly appointments. It is important to note everyone’s healing journey is individual; healing takes as long as it takes. initially, I’d advise bi-weekly appointments.

Also, you are under no obligation to continue with sessions if you do not feel they are serving you. Please be mindful of my cancellation policy in this regard.

  • Please note all fees are privately billed.

I am not registered with NDIS or Medicare, so I cannot offer a gap fee or Bulk bill your session.

If you are NDIS self-managed and I can provide a tax invoice showing you have paid which you may be able to claim with NDIS.

  • Yes, if your NDIS plan is self-managed or plan-managed. My 1:1 art therapy services are covered under line item: 15_056_0128_1_3 Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training - Other Professionals
